US structural tubing price up; market weighs tube mill price increases

Prices for hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States have increased for the first time following six weeks of declines, while market participants weighed the timing and cost of recently announced price increases from tube mills.

Fastmarkets assessed the price for steel hollow sections ASTM A500 Grade B domestic, fob mill US at $720-760 per ton ($36-38 per hundredweight) on Thursday August 27. The current price is up by $20 from $700-740 per ton the previous week, but down by 3.9% from $750-790 per ton one month ago and down by 17.8% from $880-920 per ton one year ago.
