Mexico to monitor steel pipe exports to US

Following consultations between Mexico and the United States, the southern country will establish an export monitoring program for shipments of standard pipe, mechanical tubing and semi-finished products to the US.

“Mexico will establish a strict export monitoring regime for these products through June 1, 2021, and closely monitor shipments during this period,” according to a notice from the office of the United States Trade Representative dated Monday August 31. The notice also stated that the Section 232 duty exemption for US imports of those products will remain in place.

The US had implemented Section 232 tariffs on steel imports from Mexico in June 2018, but those duties were removed...
