EUROPE REBAR: Market bullish for price hikes on higher scrap costs, good demand

Steel rebar prices in Europe were largely flat over the past week, but market participants told Fastmarkets they expect increased scrap prices and good demand to cause prices to rise in the near term.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was €440-450 ($524-535) per tonne on Wednesday September 16, widening downward from €445-450 per tonne last week.
In Italy, rebar was traded at €405-415 per tonne ex-works this week. This is equivalent to about €440-450 per tonne delivered, and down by $5 per tonne from the lower end over the past seven days, sources told Fastmarkets. But market participants said only two mills were actually offering rebar at €440 per tonne delivered.
