Brazil's steel use recovery slows, down by 1.7% in August

Apparent steel consumption fell by 1.7% year-on-year in Brazil during August 2020, with the recovery in long steel demand slowing down from July, national steel association Instituto Aço Brasil said on Tuesday September 15.

Brazilian demand for steel products hit 1.8 million tonnes last month, down from 1.83 million tonnes in August last year. Consumption also decreased month on month by 2.1% in comparison with 1.84 million tonnes reported in July this year.
According to Aço Brasil, consumption of flat-rolled steel totaled 1.01 million tonnes in August, a 5.5% year-on-year drop from 1.07 million tonnes. Those figures, on the other hand, represented growth of 0.9% from 999,000 tonnes in July 2020.
