Japanese carmakers' automotive sales, production in China hit records

Major Japanese carmakers Toyota and Honda have reported healthy automotive production and sales in China and expect sales to recover to pre-Covid-19 levels by the end of this year, Fastmarkets heard.

The recovery in global sales figures was at a faster pace than Toyota had expected, it said, even though August had a 10.6% downturn from the same period last year. Meanwhile, global production levels have already reached 93.3% of the levels reached in total in 2019, Toyota said.
"[We expect] sales to reach the prior year's level [in] the period between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021," Toyota said in its August sales result.

Toyota sold 164,354 vehicles in China in August, up 27.2% year...
