Molybdenum prices supported by tightening prompt inventories

Molybdenum prices moved up in the first half of the week supported by tightening prompt inventories in Europe and an increased appetite among end users, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for ferro-molybdenum, basis 65%, in-whs Rotterdam moved up to $20.80-21.00 per kg on Wednesday October 7 from the previous week’s assessment of $20.30-20.45 per kg as the alloy’s prompt supply in Europe continued to tighten, market sources said.
“There is not much ferro-molybdenum in Europe,” a trader in Europe said. “No one has long positions at the moment.”
