Germany's crude steel output expected to drop 15% in 2020, RWI says

Crude steel output in Germany is expected to fall 15% in 2020, but rebound 10.9% in 2021, RWI Leibniz Institute for Economic Research said in a report earlier this week.

Crude steel production in Germany has been declining since the beginning of 2020, with pace of decline only starting to slow in August.

A number of European steelmakers, including German-based mills, halted equipment or lowered production rates due to the demand slump during Covid-19 lockdowns across Europe. Output is still reduced...
