US structural tubing price spikes on tight supply, mill hikes

The price for hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States has climbed to a 17-month high amid tight supply, rising substrate costs and a series of price increases, sources told Fastmarkets, noting that they expect mills to announce more price hikes shortly.

Fastmarkets assessed the price for steel hollow sections ASTM A500 Grade B domestic, fob mill US at $900-950 per short ton ($45-47.50 per hundredweight) on Thursday October 29, up by $50 (5.7%) from $850-900 the previous week and its highest since the price stood at $920-960 per ton in late May 2019.
The current HSS price is also up by 14.2% from $800-820 per ton one month ago and up by 10.1% from $830-850 per ton one year ago.
