EUROPE REBAR: Producers seek higher prices in south, north amid good demand, short supply

European rebar producers were pushing for higher prices in a week to Wednesday November 25, citing low stocks and rising production costs, sources told Fastmarkets.

In the south of the region, rebar prices rebounded this week, backed by good buying activity and low stocks at producers.
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was €445-455 ($528-540) per tonne on Wednesday, up from €430-440 per tonne last week.
Italian rebar mills achieved higher prices in deals this week, with price growth being supported by low stocks at producers and good demand, sources said.
“They [Italian rebar producers] have not enough stock because production is influenced by the quarantine of some workers [due to Covid-19 pandemic],” one buyer said.
