US lead supply to tighten after Clarios plant closure

The impending closure of a battery recycling center in the United States is putting pressure on an already tight refined lead market.

Battery giant Clarios - previously known as Johnson Controls Power Solutions - will close its recycling center in Florence, South Carolina, on March 22, Aimee Iverson, the company’s communications manager for the US and Canada, said.
“The facility will maintain emissions controls and legal and regulatory obligations through closure in January 2023,” she said.
The closure of the Florence plant will affect approximately 360 jobs, Iverson said.
“We will continue to have a significant presence in the region, including through our Florence distribution center and Oconee manufacturing facility [in South Carolina], which remain vital to serving our customers across the Southeast.
