US copper scrap exports to China rebound despite 2018 punitive tariffs

The United States sold more copper scrap to China for the first 11 months of 2020, compared with the year before, despite a punitive tariff imposed from Beijing drastically disrupting the scrap trade flow since 2018.

US copper scrap exports to China amounted to 102,145 tonnes from January-November 2020, up 20% year on year, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) said on January 26. This means China accepted more US copper scrap exports than any other country in 2020.
