Italian authorities order hot area closure at ArcelorMittal Italia; steelmaker to appeal

Flat steel producer ArcelorMittal Italia has been ordered to shut down the hot area at its Taranto steel plant in Italy within the next 60 days following a ruling by the Court of Lecce on February 13, a spokesperson for the company told Fastmarkets on Monday February 15.

The decision was made in order to prevent pollution from the plant and to protect the health of local citizens, according to Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
ArcelorMittal Italia will appeal the ruling to the council of state, it said on February 13.
