SOUTHERN EUROPE WIRE ROD: Market ‘frozen’ in stalemate awaiting price direction

The steel mesh-quality wire rod market in southern Europe was subdued in the week to Wednesday February 17, with most producers yet to make firm offers for March.

Fastmarkets assessed the weekly price for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Southern Europe at €660-670 ($800-814) per tonne on Wednesday, narrowing from €660-680 a week prior.
The assessment was based on deals, offers and achievable prices reported by market participants over the past seven days.
Major steel wire rod producers in Italy shied away from giving new offer prices for March-rolling wire rod.
“We sold out of February [rolling] already, but we are not ready to offer March yet,” one mills source said.
