Major Japanese steelmaker to increase offers for May-shipment steel plate

A major Japanese steel producer plans to increase its offer for May-shipment steel plate by $30 per tonne to $780 per tonne in Southeast Asia amid limited supplies, Fastmarkets understands.

A source said the unnamed company was even aiming to ask $800 per tonne cfr Singapore, up from its April-delivery plate offer price of $750 per tonne cfr Singapore.
“Plate supply in Southeast Asia is likely to be limited in the next few weeks because South Korea and China are focusing on their domestic markets and offering at higher prices [rather than going to the] export market,” he said.
