US raises duty to prohibitive 160% on Kazakh silicon imports

The United States Department of Commerce has proposed a severe 160% duty on silicon metal from Kazakhstan, up from 120% in the department’s preliminary duty proposal.

Market participants told Fastmarkets that they struggled to recall much higher recommended duties.
The department left unchanged its proposed duty on silicon metal imports from Iceland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, when it made its final duty determinations on Tuesday February 23.

Commerce had provisionally announced in December anti-dumping duties of 37.83% to 47.54% on Iceland and a 21.41% duty for Bosnia and Herzegovina for alleged dumping of silicon metal. That announcement followed...
