POLAND REBAR: Market quiet after splash of activity

The domestic steel rebar market in Poland was largely quiet during the week to Friday March 5, despite producers’ push for price increases, sources told Fastmarkets on Friday March 5.

Buying activity in Poland’s rebar market became quiet this week after a series of bookings were made in the week before.

Additionally, ArcelorMittal announced a €30-40 ($36-48)-per-tonne increase for long steel prices across the EU with an immediate effect on March 2.

Polish buyers, however, were skeptical about the move and said they thought prices are already pretty high.

“Customers are in 'wait-and-see' mode, trying to convince the market that [rebar] prices will go down. But I don’t see any grounds for that - scrap is rising...
