CHINA HRC: Tangshan blast furnace shutdowns push up prices

China’s hot-rolled coil prices increased on Friday March 12 after central government inspections at producers in the Tangshan steelmaking hub in northern China led to the mills being ordered to shut down blast furnaces to help curb air pollution.

Eastern China (Shanghai): 4,920-4,950 yuan ($758-762) per tonne, up 60-90 yuan per tonne
Northern China (Tangshan) - weekly assessment: 4,830-4,920 yuan per tonne, down 10-50 yuan per tonne
A Shanghai-based trader said spot sellers raised offers after hearing that officials from the central government inspected several mills in Tangshan on Thursday evening.
The minister for ecology and the environment, Huang Runqiu, took part in inspections at Hegang Tanggang Stainless Steel, Tangshan Jinma Iron & Steel, Tangshan Chunxing Special Steel and Tangshan Donghua Iron & Steel.
