Fastmarkets’ price assessment for
ferro-silicon lumpy basis 75% Si (scale pro rata), delivered Europe was €1,360-1,450 ($1,625-1,732) per tonne ddp on Friday, up €40-50, or 3.3%, from €1,320-1,400 per tonne a week earlier.
The market is now at its highest level since July 2018 when the range was €1,400-1,475 per tonne delivered. The market has been climbing steadily since August 2020 when prices were as low as €860 per tonne.
There is reduced European production of ferro-silicon and little sign of any considerable tonnages being offered from traditional exporters in Brazil, Ukraine and Malaysia. European producers have sold most, if not all, of their production planned for the second quarter to domestic steelmakers.
