Chinese official jailed for forging chemical assay of copper concs

A Chinese court has handed down a jail sentence of four years to a customs official who was bribed to manipulate test results on the chemical assay of metal products that fell short of the country’s import standards.

The offences include under-reporting fluorine content on 35 occasions in overseas copper concentrate, according to a ruling published on April 1 by Binhai New District People’s Court of Tianjin Municipality. The case number is 2021 (Tianjin) 0116 Criminal, No258.
The official, Song Yi, was deputy manager of a laboratory in the customs department of Tianjin province which tested and verified the chemical assay of metal raw materials from February 2014 to March 2020.
