China’s long steel export prices at highest since Oct 2008

Chinese exporters raised their offers for long steel over the past two weeks amid concerns that the country’s export rebate of 13% for the materials will be removed, causing prices to reach the highest since October 2008.

Fastmarkets’ steel reinforcing bar (rebar) index export, fob China main port was calculated at $810 per tonne on Tuesday April 20, unchanged from a week earlier, when it jumped by $107.50 per tonne.
The latest calculation is the index’s highest since October 10, 2008, when it stood at $900-920 per tonne fob.
