Major Japanese mill to hike steel plate export offers by $100 per tonne

A major Japanese steel producer is to offer plate at around $1,000 per tonne cfr Southeast Asia for July/August-shipment - an month-on-month increase of $100 per tonne - due to limited supplies, a source told Fastmarkets this week.

Supplies of steel plate have been reduced by limited blast furnace operating rates.
“The steelmaker will produce according to demand, while aiming for price increases,” the source said, without naming the producer.
Japanese steelmakers previously suspended some blast furnace operations in response to the global slowdown in demand since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
