TURKEY FLAT STEEL: Price increases continue on strong demand

Prices continued to increase for hot-rolled and cold-rolled coil in Turkey during the week ended Friday April 30, with steel mills offering for September production, sources have told Fastmarkets.

Demand was strong, especially in the local market, because of low stock levels.
The export markets, on the other hand, were not very strong because of duties imposed on Turkish HRC, as well as the high prices from Turkish mills, sources said.
China removed export rebates on several steel products during the week, and also removed import duties on steelmaking raw materials.
But the changes to Chinese taxes were unlikely to have a major effect on Turkey’s exports, sources believed, because the main export markets for China are geographically far from Turkey.
In addition, the prices in China’s HRC export markets were lower than those for Turkish material.
