NORTHERN EUROPE REBAR: Price gains strength on good demand, limited imports

Domestic steel rebar prices in the north of Europe moved up in some countries in the week to Wednesday May 5, supported by strong demand and limited overseas supply.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was €650-680 ($781-818) per tonne on May 5, widening upward by €10 per tonne week on week.
The assessment was based deals, offers and achievable prices reported by market sources over the past week.
The low end of the assessment - €650 per tonne delivered - reflected deals and price indications in the Benelux area, while offers there ranged €660-680 per tonne delivered, sources said.
"It's a bit difficult to push through an increase as buyers will not accept higher prices yet. They prefer to wait and see, and book small tonnages for urgent needs," a trader in the Netherlands said.
