EU apparent steel consumption will rise 12% in 2021, Eurofer says

European steel association Eurofer believes that apparent steel consumption in the EU will increase by 11.7% year-on-year in 2021, it said on Thursday May 6.

The association also forecast a more moderate rise of 4.9% year-on-year in 2022, to return “above 2017 levels thanks to continued improvement in demand from steel-using sectors.”
As a result, EU apparent steel consumption was expected to reach 152 million tonnes in 2021 and 160 million tonnes in 2022.
Apparent steel consumption among the nations of the EU28 increased by 3.3% year-on-year to 35.2 million tonnes in the October-December quarter of 2020, making it the first quarter to show growth since the fourth quarter of 2019.
