APT export, domestic concentrates prices adjust down; overall market firm

Some Chinese exporters have concluded deals for ammonium paratungstate (APT) at a low price when the material’s price in China’s domestic market temporarily weakened around the Labor Day holiday (May 1-5).

Tungsten market sentiment in China, however, picked up shortly after the Ganzhou Tungsten Association (GTA) published a strengthened forecast price for May, Fastmarkets learned.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for tungsten APT 88.5%WO3 min, fob main ports China was $263-275 per metric tonne unit (mtu) on Wednesday May 12, down by 4% from $265-275 per mtu the previous week.

Some traders inked deals at the low end of the range during or just after the Labor Day holiday, while others continued to hold prices firm at the mid or high end of the range, sources said.
