SOUTHERN EUROPE WIRE ROD: Italian mills keep away from market, sharp price rises expected

Steel wire rod producers in Italy continued to refrain from making new offers on Wednesday May 19, with market observers expecting them to return next week at substantially higher prices.

In Spain, some producer have already increased their offers amid a shortage of material and costly feedstock. Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was €750-800 ($915-976) per tonne on May 19, up from €720-770 per tonne delivered one week earlier.
