SOUTHERN EUROPE WIRE ROD: Shortages, rising raw material costs support prices

The domestic market for steel mesh-quality wire rod in Southern Europe was largely stable in the week to Wednesday June 8, but tight supply and rising scrap costs could increase prices in the short term, sources told Fastmarkets.

Low stocks at mills, combined with limited imports and uncertainty over safeguard measures, continue to support high prices across Southern Europe, although the high prices are making credit lines increasingly unavailable to buyers, sources said.
"It's practically impossible to open a new credit line now, which is a big problem," a source in Italy said.
