EUROPE HRC: Prices soften slightly on calm buying

The domestic market for hot-rolled coil in Europe has softened on a lack of trading activity and cooling global sentiment, but market sources did not see this as a reversal of the price trend, considering the persistent shortage of material and good order books at mills, Fastmarkets heard on Thursday June 10.

Trade in the European HRC market was moderate this week, sources said, with the availability of credit lines limiting activity.
“Buyers are calm. The main issue is that credit lines are not available,” one trader said.
In addition, distributors had already restocked and could afford to refrain from purchasing for a some time, to assess the situation.
