China’s LFP battery production exceeds NCM battery output in May

Chinese output of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries surpassed that of nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) lithium-ion batteries in May, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) shows.

This is the first time in three years that Chinese production of LFP batteries has exceeded that of NCM batteries, market sources told Fastmarkets.
China produced 8.8 gigawatt hours (GWh) of LFP batteries last month, accounting for 63.6% of total battery output. May’s output also represents a 317.3% increase over the same month of last year, according to CAAM.
