SOUTHERN EUROPE REBAR: Low stock, high scrap costs keep price at 13-year high

The rebar price in Southern Europe held steady at multi-year high levels on Wednesday June 23 due to supply shortages and surging scrap feedstock costs, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was at €760-785 ($905-935) per tonne on Wednesday, the same as last week. The price, however, has been rising steadily since early May when it stood at €620-650 per tonne. The price is now at its highest since August 2008 when it was €770-820 per tonne.
