NORTHERN EUROPE WIRE ROD: Prices soften slightly, expectations diverge

Steel wire rod prices in Northern Europe fell in the seven days to Wednesday September 8, with buyers pushing for further discounts, citing considerably cheaper import offers, sources told Fastmarkets this week.

But producers in the region no intention of dropping prices further.
They told Fastmarkets that end-user demand was “quite satisfactory” and said most mills were “comfortably booked.” 
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality) domestic, delivered Northern Europe was €880-910 ($1,041-1,076) per tonne on Wednesday, down from €890-920 per tonne.
The assessment was a reflection of reported deals and offers, along with achievable price estimates by market participants.
