Gap between 72% and 75% ferro-silicon price widens

The price gap between 72% and 75% ferro-silicon has widened to about 2,000-3,000 yuan ($310-464) from 200-300 yuan in February due to the soaring magnesium market, a major consumer of 75% material.

Fastmarkets’ assessment of ferro-silicon 75% Si min, in-whs China rose to 22,000-23,000 yuan per tonne on Wednesday September 29, up 3,000-4,000 yuan week on week from 18,000-20,000 yuan, and has almost doubled from 9,800-10,400 yuan a month ago.

Sources indicated the China price for 72% ferro-silicon was around 16,000-17,000 yuan per tonne last week, when the price for 75% material had already reached 18,000-20,000 yuan per tonne....
