Using hot-briquetted iron (HBI), the carbon emission intensity per tonne of lower-CO2 flat steel products - which it calls “bluemint” - is 70% lower at 0.6 tonnes of CO2 per tonne than the 1.5 tonnes that would be produced otherwise, the steelmaker said on Wednesday October 6.
Thyssenkrupp’s “bluemint pure” steel product has all direct emissions from its production at its Duisburg operations neutralized by savings in the production process, it said.
