INTERVIEW: LME spot trading platform to start with low-carbon aluminium, CEO says

The London Metal Exchange’s new spot trading platform is expected to start with low-carbon aluminium before rolling out other metals – and could eventually become a springboard for some new futures contracts, its chief executive officer said.

In an interview with Fastmarkets, Matthew Chamberlain said the exchange had previously looked at various options for a spot trading platform, including building its own or acquiring one. The bourse eventually settled on partnering as its preferred method, selecting Metalshub in part due to its management team, established and successful trading platform, and complementary business model with very few overlaps, he noted.
The partnership between the LME and Metalshub was announced early on Monday October 11. It is a collaborative model to be run by Metalshub: Users of the spot trading platform will be directed to the Metalshub site, with the LME partnering to bring in contracts and users, plus aid marketing.
