EUROPE PLATE: Domestic prices inch down, but mood turns positive

Domestic prices for heavy plate in Europe declined further in the week to Wednesday October 14, but sentiment has turned bullish, supported by higher slab costs and improved demand, sources told Fastmarkets this week.

“The mood is improving as slab [prices] are set to recover and we have received some higher bids for interesting lots,” an Italian re-roller said.
Heavy plate prices in Southern Europe - produced mainly by Italian re-rollers using imported slab - had been under pressure, with buyers pushing for discounts due to a decline in semi-finished steel prices.
