Pilbara Minerals, Posco finalize agreement for South Korean lithium facility

Australian lithium producer Pilbara Minerals and South Korean steelmaking giant Posco have finalized a joint venture agreement to develop and operate a lithium hydroxide conversion facility in Gwangyang, South Korea, the former said on Tuesday October 26.

The joint venture will be named Posco-Pilbara Minerals Lithium Solution Co and will consist of two production lines. Each line will have capacity to produce 21,500 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year, for a total capacity of 43,000 tonnes per year.
In 2019, Pilbara Minerals exercised an option with Posco to develop a chemical conversion plant in South Korea with an estimated production capacity of 40,000 tonnes of lithium compounds per year.
