US steel hollow structural sections prices fall for the first time since August 2020

Prices for steel hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States weakened for the first time in 15 months after a two-month slump in the price of hot-rolled coil substrate finally started dragging some tube mill offers down.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel hollow sections ASTM A500 Grade B domestic, fob mill US slipped to $2,400-2,425 per short ton ($120.00-121.25 per hundredweight) on Thursday November 18 from $2,425-2,475 per ton ($121.25-123.75 per cwt) on November 11. Before the fresh decline, the HSS assessment stood at that level for 14 consecutive weeks. Midwestern buyers said some mills have started responding to inquiries by knocking off as much as $40 per ton ($2 per cwt) from their prior offers....
