Iranian export steel slab prices slide, billet largely stable

Export prices for steel slab from Iran continued to slide in the week to Wednesday November 24 amid the general downtrend in the slab and flat steel sectors in the customer markets, especially Asia, which remained the principal outlet for Iranian material.

Fastmarkets’ latest weekly price assessment for steel slab, import, cfr Southeast Asia/East Asia, was $690 per tonne on November 22, against $690-710 per tonne a week earlier.
Consequently, Iranian steelmakers have reduced their target prices in new tenders for slab exports.
Khouzestan Steel, one of the country’s major slab exporters, opened a tender for 40,000-50,000 tonnes of prime material at the end of last week. Bids were to be submitted by November 23.
