Vale seeks to resume 14-mln-tpy Apolo iron ore project

Brazil-based miner Vale has filed an environmental permit request with the government of the country’s Minas Gerais state to resume its Apolo iron ore project, whose licensing process started in 2009, the company said on Tuesday November 23.

In a revision of the project, the unit would have capacity to produce 14 million tonnes per year of sinter feed while a direct connection would be built to the Vitória-Minas railroad that transports ore between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo for ultimate export.
