EU steel plate prices fairly stable but sentiment uncertain

Domestic prices for steel heavy plate in Europe were fairly stable over the week to Wednesday November 24, supported by good demand, sources told Fastmarkets.

Market sources, however, did not have a clear outlook for the near future.
“Sentiment is quite neutral now - there are lots of uncertainties,” an Italian re-roller said. “There are factors weighing in both directions and, as a result, prices are stable.”
Heavy plate prices jumped by €70-100 ($79-112) per tonne at the start of November due to the rise in energy costs. That increase was followed by a degree of negative price correction, but prices still remained high.
