US hot-rolled coil index dips heading into holiday

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States finished the working week before the Thanksgiving holiday by dipping slightly for a third consecutive day after market participants noted some end-of-year deals available from mills hoping to close out their 2021 inventory.

Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $89.28 per hundredweight ($1,785.60 per short ton) on Wednesday November 24, a slight 0.32% decrease from $89.57 per cwt on Tuesday November 23 and down by 1.53% from $90.67 per cwt a week earlier. Fresh inputs were...
