Ferroglobe to rejig Spanish operations to counter rise in energy costs

London-based ferro-alloys producer Ferroglobe will change its activities to combat the increasing cost of energy in its main operational centers in Spain, it announced on Friday November 26.

The company produces silicon metal, silicon-based alloys and manganese-based alloys, but it will idle a furnace at Sabón in north-western Spain, and another at the Boo plant, in Santander, on the country’s northern coast.
Ferrolobe also intended to decrease production by 25% at the Monzón facility in Aragon, by regulating production in line with energy prices and volatility.

Earlier this year, in September, Ferroglobe shut one silicon furnace at its Sabón plant and a silico-manganese furnace at Boo....
