Offers for Taiwan import steel scrap rise after US sellers return to market

Offer prices for containers of steel scrap HMS 1&2 (80:20) for import into Taiwan have moved up this week following the return of US sellers to the market after their Thanksgiving holiday last week, sources told Fastmarkets on Tuesday November 30.

• Buyers in Taiwan bid higher for containerized scrap
• Japan records more sales to South Korea at lower prices
• Market activity remains thin in China for imported HRS101 scrap.

Bids for containerized HMS 1&2 (80:20) were heard at $455-460 per tonne cfr Taiwan on Tuesday, against previous offers at $465 per tonne cfr Taiwan.
“So far [this week], deal activity has been low, because the offers from sellers are still rising,” a Taiwan-based scrap buyer told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets’ daily price assessment for containerized steel scrap, HMS 1&2 (80:20 mix), US material import, cfr main port Taiwan, was $455-460 per tonne on November 30, up by $8-10 per tonne from $445-452 per tonne cfr Taiwan on Monday.
