Aço Brasil raises 2021 steel production, consumption forecasts

Brazil’s steel industry body Instituto Aço Brasil raised its 2021 outlook for crude steel production and apparent consumption while also lowering estimates for domestic sales on Thursday December 2.

Aço Brasil now expects apparent steel consumption to total 26.66 million tonnes in 2021, from a previous forecast of 26.61 million tonnes published in July. That new projection would mean 24.28% in growth from 24.45 million tonnes reported in 2020.
The association believes that demand will remain heated going into 2022, especially due to strength in construction and some industrial sectors. It forecast 27.05 million tonnes in apparent consumption next year.
