Chinese lithium carbonate prices up on tight supply, year-end restocking

Chinese battery-grade lithium carbonate price resumed its ascent in the week to Thursday December 2, with consumers conducting year-end restocking making steady purchases amid tight availability of spot units.

Battery-grade lithium carbonate prices in China continued to edge up this week amid year-end restocking, while limited spot supply added further strength to them, market participants told Fastmarkets.
Fastmarkets’ assessment of the lithium carbonate 99.5% Li2CO3 min, battery grade, spot price range, ex-works domestic China was 210,000-220,000 yuan ($32,932-34,500) per tonne on Thursday, up by 10,000 yuan per tonne from 200,000-210,000 yuan per tonne a week earlier.
Chinese consumers started to actively top up their inventories for battery-grade lithium carbonate in preparation for the operations in January and early February when China celebrates the Chinese New Year.
