LME nickel drops 1.5%; further 21kt of aluminium delivered into Port Klang

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange started the week mixed on Monday December 6, with nickel falling by 1.5%.

The three-month nickel price dropped below the $20,000-per-tonne barrier this morning, recently down by $315 per tonne to $19,715 per tonne. Global macroeconomic uncertainty, and concerns surrounding the risks of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, continues to make market participants cautious. “In regard to nickel, market participants will be paying close attention to Tuesday’s call between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin amid mounting tensions over Ukraine.
