Russian domestic rebar prices fall further but could rebound on reduced supply

Domestic Russian prices for steel rebar in the Central Federal District around Moscow dropped again during the seven days ended Monday December 6, market sources have told Fastmarkets.

Price stability was expected soon on the basis of reduced supply from some mills, due to a transformer accident at MMK and Tula Steel’s plan to focus its December production on wire rod.
According to market participants, MMK’s transformer repairs would affect the mill’s December billet output, and subsequently the supplies of rebar and sections to the market. Tula Steel’s equipment is able to produce either rebar or wire rod, and it has chosen to focus on wire rod this month.
