China's pig iron import market softens on thin trading, but views split on short-term demand

Market activity for imports of basic pig iron into China has been sparse over the previous two weeks because offers have been too high for buyers in the country. But market participants held mixed views on China's short-term demand for the material on Thursday December 9.

A limited number of offers for pig iron have been heard over the past two weeks. Offers for material from India were heard at $540 per tonne cfr China. Offers from Brazil were heard at $500 per tonne fob, which works out at around $570 per tonne cfr China, including freight costs, sources told Fastmarkets.
