Nexa cuts Vazante zinc mine output by 40% due to heavy rains in Brazil's Minas Gerais state

Brazilian base metals producer Nexa Resources has scaled back production at its Vazante underground zinc mine by 40% because of extreme, heavy rainfall in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.

The rain flooded parts of the lower levels of the underground operation faster than it could be pumped back to the surface, Nexa said on Wednesday January 12.
The company's nearby Extremo Norte mine has not been affected.
The company said it had temporarily reduced capacity at the Vazante mine to ensure the safety of its employees and local communities.
