Marcello De Angelis

Energia Minerals (Italia)

Marcello de Angelis received his Doctorate in Geological Sciences from the University of Naples (Italy) in 1966. After an initial period as geologist-photogeologist in oil exploration, he moved to Australia to be engaged as a consultant for base and precious metals exploration with several mining companies. This activity continued in Southern Africa, Congo and, in more recent years, Papua New Guinea, Kyrgyzstan and Albania for several mineral commodities.

In 1974, he joined the Italian Government ENI Group to participate in uranium exploration with government agencies in Bolivia and Republique du Congo. After a one-year period with Minatome in 1980 to manage the production development of the Manyngee U Project in Western Australia, he was appointed Exploration and Production Manager for the activities in Australasia with SAMIM and subsequently AGIP Australia, companies of the ENI Group engaged in non-ferrous mining and metallurgy. He was then appointed Executive Vice President of Agip Canada in Toronto, where he resided until 1993 with the mandate to negotiate feedstock contracts for the ENI Italian smelting operations in Italy.

In 1996, Marcello funded a privately-owned company, Etruscan Gold Exploration Pty Ltd (EGE), to generate base and precious metals projects with the main objective to renew a mineral industry in Italy that had remained dormant for many decades. This has resulted to date with two ASX-listed Australian companies operating exploration and mining projects in northern Italy.
Marcello de Angelis has published several papers and given a number of talks on mineral-related topics.

He is:
• Registered Member of the Italian Order of Geologists;
• Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy;
• Member of the Associazione Ingegneri Minerari (Italy);
• Society of Economic Geologists.
